Among the great architectural marvels of Cusco are the Great Inka Temple of the Sun, Qoricancha, which, after the Conquest was converted by the Spaniards into the Convent of Santo Domingo, and the Convent of  La Merced, where Francisco Pizarro’s partner, Diego de Almagro, was buried. You will have the on-site opportunity to share and to learn about the life, traditions and marketing customs of the locals at a village market, then you will get to know the Archaeological Center of Qenqo, which will astonish you with its limestone workmanship. Over the next few days, you will visit Chinchero and its 18th century colonial church. Continuing the journey, you will head to Ollantaytambo, said to be the last living Inka city in the world, where you will also see the imposing Inka fortress-temple constructed during the rule of the Inka Pachacutec. After a pleasant train ride through the Peruvian Andes, you will enter the valleys of the cloud forest where you will encounter the great legacy of the Inkas, Machu Picchu. You will visit the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana sundial, ceremonial areas, and more. The next day you will have the option of returning to Machu Picchu, and, in the afternoon, you will return to Cusco by train.

 

ITINERARY

Day 01 CUSCO

Today early in the morning we will show you Cusco the highlights of the city starting by the temple of the Sun known as Qoricancha, then we visit the Church of La Merced, but we will also show you the actual way of living of the local people, and what a better place for that than a market, the San Pedro Market. Finally we drive to the upper part of the city to observe the majestic Sacsayhuaman, Inka temple where you will appreciate colossal blocks which may weight as much as 120 tons. Nearby we also have Qenko. We finish the morning having an splendid lunch on a local cusqueño home.

Day 02 SACRED VALLEY

We leave Cusco towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, along the way we can enjoy the beautiful Andean landscape and its snow capped mountains aligned along the valley, our first stop will be at Chichero, to see the town and its Inkas ruins nearby, we now visit the open salt mine at Maras. lunch at a local restaurant at Urubamba city, on the afternoon we visit the temple – fortress of Ollantaytambo, well know on the local history as the place where the Spanish were defeated for the first time by the Inkas led by Manko Inka.

Day 03 MACHU PICCHU
Finally your dream comes true, today we head to one of the New seven Wonders of the World Machu Picchu. Once we get the train station at Aguas Calientes we take a  local tourist bus for a 25 minutes drive. The tour will take you to see the temple of the Sun, the farming area, the temple of the Condor among other important sections of the Inka city.

Day 04 CUSCO
Today if you desire you can visit Machu Picchu on your own, if so we highly recommend you to take one a walk to the Intipunku or Sun’s gate or perhaps to the Inka bridge. By the afternoon you will transferred to Ollantaytambo train station and then board a coach to  drive back to Cusco

Day 05 CUSCO
Transfer to the Airport or  Bus Terminal
